What are VR slots?
VR slot machines are slot machines that are only and exclusively accessible via a VR set. This is done so that the player becomes 100 per cent immersed in the game as if playing in a physical casino.
There are still many limitations, and the spread of these games is not too great. A handful of casinos currently offer VR-accessible games, as players prefer, for the time being, the classic gaming propositions.
Features of these modern slot machines
There would be a lot to say about the features of these slot machines with VR. To give you an idea of the unique game mode, imagine you are wearing a VR set and entering through the door of a virtual casino.
At this point, you will find yourself in front of a slot machine, say Book of Ra, where you can play it by “clicking buttons” and moving around it. Animations will also take over the whole scene; with each win, there will be animated elements all over the “screen”.
We are talking about a 360-degree gaming experience to make the game better than the real thing. I had the pleasure of trying these games a few months ago, but I’ll tell you ahead of time what I think.
Does a VR slot mean a 3D slot?
There is often much confusion when talking about 3D and VR. The two terms were linked in the past but are no longer. By 3D, we mean an element in three dimensions. This can be a console game or a slot machine with modern graphics.
By VR, we mean virtual reality, i.e. immersion in a digital world that involves all our senses. They are two different ways of playing, both enjoyable but still different.
How can you tell if slots with VR are for you?
This is a sore point, as trying these slot machines is difficult. How so? You will need a VR visor to play them, which often costs hundreds of euros. Also, you will need a medium to advanced technical profile to set it up.
Let’s imagine, however, that you managed to get VR. We are faced with the second problem: finding slot machines that work with this technology. In fact, few software houses have ventured into creating these games due to the low uptake of VR.
Let’s summarise these slots.
As I anticipated, I tried slots with VR some time ago. My opinion on them? They are really good. I stress that holding VR in my head for too long gives me a headache, but it remains an enjoyable experience.
If you can play them, do so, although I don’t think they will become your favourite type of slot machine. Let’s say they are “a bit too niche” games, and it will probably be years before they enter our homes.
