Rainbow Riches is perhaps the best-known online slot game around. Launching in 2009 under the Barcrest brand, it encapsulates the essence of the Irish theme, providing fun, thrilling wins and enthralling special features. The low maximum payout of 500x your bet and dated graphics within may not be for everyone, but I think there’s still plenty to gain from spinning its five reels.
Should you charge across the rainbow?
Yes, yes and another yes. Rainbow Riches led the way for many other online slots after it, incorporating (for that time) stunning graphics, an enjoyable base theme and more than one special feature round. Barcrest took the base theme and ran with it, which is why the slot remains as popular today as it was when it initially came out. The medium volatility and the three bonus rounds make it thoroughly appealing.
Games with an RTP rate below 96% aren’t often appreciated today, as that is the general average for video slots. Plus, Rainbow Riches doesn’t offer payouts above 500x your bet, which is remarkably low in comparison to modern slot games. Though once you start playing it, you can’t help but be hooked by how charming it is.
- Three bonus rounds – rare for slots from the 2000s.
- Medium volatility – ideal for all types of gamers.
- Popular Irish base theme.
- Visuals look quite dated – the slot is from 2009.
- Low maximum win of 500x your bet.
- The RTP rate is under the 96% average.
Place your bets and spin the reels
If you look at the bottom of the Rainbow Riches game screen, you will see up and down arrows for Lines and Bet/Line. The first allows you to customise the active number of paylines per spin, up to 20 in total. The second is where you adjust the wager in play per active payline between 1p and £25. This means you can wager up to £500 per spin over 20 paylines when playing the game.
The flashing green button in the bottom-right with the word “Spin” written on it is what you press to get started. The reels will spin and produce a result. Match three or more of the same symbol on an active payline from the game’s leftmost reel onwards and you win a reward. Be sure to check out the paytable via the “1” button in the bottom-left, to see the available payouts.
Three bonus rounds and more to appreciate in Rainbow Riches
As you spin the slot’s reels, you may come across certain special additions to enjoy. The first of these is the wild symbol – a gold coin with a leprechaun on it. This one substitutes for all the basic symbols in Rainbow Riches, helping to create wins. The maximum you can win from this one is 25x your bet.
The Road to Riches function in the slot is my favourite of the three bonus rounds. This triggers when three leprechaun symbols appear anywhere. Press the wheel and see how many steps you will move. Continue spinning and collecting until the wheel lands on Collect. You can win up to 500x the bet in this round. I once played it and achieved a payout of £900 by the end.
There is also the Wishing Well feature, triggered by three or more scattered wishing wells. Select a well by clicking on it and you will receive a reward of between 2x to 500x your wager.
Pots of Gold is the third bonus round. Spin three scattered gold pots onto the reels to activate it. Gold, silver and bronze pots then spin around the screen. They will come to a halt and whichever one the arrow is pointing at determines your bet multiplier. At least 50x your bet comes from this special feature.
Time to get game technical
Rainbow Riches is like any other slot. Thus, it features an RTP rate and volatility level. The first of these stands at 95%, which highlights how much you can expect to win back from it over time. The volatility level is medium, though. As a result, Rainbow Riches is likely to cater to all types of gamers.
Before you go ahead and start spinning the game’s reels, you should also keep the maximum win potential in mind. Playing the Rainbow Riches slot machine means you can only win up to 500x your stake. All this information comes from official Barcrest documentation on the slot, so remember it when you’re betting.
Is a shining rainbow experience ahead?
There are some people who know all about Rainbow Riches and Barcrest. There are others who do not know about either. If you’re of the latter, then I recommend playing this game. It’s a perfect way to introduce yourself to the brand, whilst also having a top level of fun spinning its reels.
As is often the case, the three bonus feature rounds serve as the primary driving force behind playing Rainbow Riches. It’s not surprising, and I have played it several times just to try and get into the Road to Riches bonus – can you tell it’s my favourite yet? Yet even beyond those features, the game comes with a top betting range, a compelling base theme and a good volatility rate. You’re sure to have fun playing it.
